A Conversation with one of the founders of Innocent Drinks about Abubilla Music

During the first week of September, we had lunch with Richard Reed, one of the founders of Innocent Drinks, to get his advice on how to run Abubilla Music – good lunch, fantastic advice and golly willikers he spun our heads around… Read the rest of this post »

This Week in the Studio: 10.09.04

We’re back in the studio on masse for the first time since Spain – new vocalists check us out, we put down ‘Colours of My I-Pod’, Mike proves he can play a real drum, Rob goes Blondie, and Gus gives bed sores a new name… Read the rest of this post »

Mexico City

Chio has not yet shared his musical wisdom, so I’ve stepped in because of a new discovery:

Folk is the new four letter word

…and we all like the style d’español over here at Abubilla, so Alejandro Fernández feels like a great match for us.

Palo Alto – Music Music Music

So this is exciting, apparently there is a World Music Day, which started in France in 1982. There’s now a tradition in Palo Alto where on the 21st June (Sunday).. (world music day) ..(fathers day) there’s a big festival! Its free and many musicians from all of the world come and play all day and be joyful on street corners. Sounds awesome to me..

This is my favourite video from Palo Alto Music Day 2010

Abubilla News! 2nd September

Thanks to Andy, that clever little busy bee, our latest album, Misery Marmalade and Other Spanish Jams, is available in SO MANY places, you can hardly avoid it…

Also, Jimmy, Kathy and Lou braved the traffic for the wilds of Essex to attend the wedding of resident Abubilla chord-meister Ed to his betrothed Helen. We tried to warn him about having to share his sports car with her forever, but he went ahead with it anyway, and a great day was had by all. Rumours that Ed managed to sneak a few of his ’special’ chords into the string quartet parts he arranged, are unconfirmed.

We all wish Ed and Helen a big congratulations from all at Abubilla. Photos to follow soon.

Also, an interesting development on the Abubilla International front. Lew Allen, our scholar in Anchorage Alaska, has taken delivery of the first few bits of his new studio (despite the best efforts of the USPS/UPS)…. Our ideal of a global recording studio is now full steam ahead! We are preparing technical guides to help aid Lew in the set up of the studio and we’ll be posting these to the website in the near future to share the technical love, as that is what we are all about at Abubilla.

We have a studio session on Saturday. The first since Spain in June. From the sounds of things, everyone is chomping at the bit. We also have a new arrival to the group. No, not a child, but a shiny new i7 iMac. We have finally thrown off the shackles of the aging Dell PC, which has now been released on Gardening leave.

Until next time… cheap cheap….
