Biography
Music has always been a key part of Ed’s life: he can still remember the first time he heard the Beach Boys (Surfin’ USA, sitting in the back seat of a Cadillac at the age of 5); within two listens to Revolver he was singing along; and he wrote his first song at the age of 6 (2 days after his dad gave him a Yamaha keyboard).
Always more of a natural musician than a lyricist, Ed developed his skills composing bassoon sonatas, arranging award winning Brass Quartet pieces and forever striving to prove to his music teachers that music was all about creativity and inspiration, not musical forms, theory and history. He has recently been attempting to improve his lyrics by listening to unhealthy amounts of Paul Simon and that other brilliant lyricist, Noel Gallagher.
His biggest musical achievement has been the release of an album and 2 EPs with his university band, Sleepwalker (who, after a 3-year hiatus, are reforming in October 2010). The album sold ~600 copies and actually made a profit. He’s convinced it was this fledgling business skill (along with the fantastic ice-breaker of turning up at interview on crutches) which won him a place at Bain and Co. Here, his musical reputation spread (mainly thanks to his forming an office band) to the point where Jimmy had to give him a shot at the big-time. Since then, Ed has spent his Saturday Mornings playing guitars and trumpet as much as possible, singing as little as possible, playing with water and staring at keyboards, trying to make the sounds in his head go away.

The science geek and the artist in me are simultaneously happy – not often that happens!
